“Aubrey” – Season 2 Ep. 12

Aubrey - Episode 36. When I was designing this poster, I found myself wishing this episode was titled ‘Sister’. I’m glad I was still able to work that instinct into my design. I found much of the episode disturbing and I aimed to create an image that was equally jarring.

(Awww, this poster creeps me out)

MulderI’ve often felt that dreams are answers to questions we haven’t yet figured out how to ask.

Original Air Date: January 6th, 1995

Principal Setting: Aubrey, Missouri

Episode Summary:

Mulder and Scully travel to Aubrey, Missouri to discover how a local police detective, Inspector B.J. Morrow (Deborah Strang), has found the bones of a missing, long dead FBI agent in a random field. She has no recollection on how or why she was able to dig up the dead FBI agent that died in 1942. At the same time, the local police also have a strange murder case- a young woman has the word ‘sister’ carved with a razor on her chest. When Lt. Brian Tilman (Terry O’Quinn) first sees the crime photo evidence he thinks that the FBI have more clues on the most recent murder, but the photos are nearly 60 years old. There is a close connection between the cases happening from the past and present, as well as the dead and the living.

Personal Commentary:

This episode has some great twists and turns and Deborah Strang has a fantastic performance really showing some great range. I really liked the use of camera angles to add a creepy effect as it panned around corners and took the view somewhat into a first person perspective.

-Spoiler- It is a bit of a stretch that the genetic makeup of her being Harry Cokely’s daughter is literally passed down to her to posses her to carry out Cokely’s killing desires. It does add another level of creepy and Deborah does a great job personifying Cokely, it just seems a little out there. That’s what makes it an X-File I guess.

One last observation, if they already know the woman victim had ‘sister’ etched into her chest, why does it take nearly 5 minutes for them to figure out the guy’s bones had ‘brother’ carved into it. It seems like a logical conclusion that Scully at least should have realized before Inspector Marrow reveals it to them.

I like that you put pictures with the actors now, for those of us who don’t have a clue who the heck you’re talking about. 😉

That actor also played Howard Hughs in the Rocketeer, one of Cherie’s fave movies as a kid. 😉 I also found the premise a bit of a stretch but maybe a ghostly murder was too similar to the last episode?
